Student Chapter SPIE/OSA of Charles University
Our Student Chapter SPIE is an association of young physicists and students of physics in the field of Optics, guaranteed by Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University in Prague. Our parent organization is SPIE - international society for Optics and Photonics. It was established in 1955 with an aim to join together scientific and academic experts operating in domains of Optics, Photonics and displaying engineering. Nowadays, SPIE is one of the largest societies in this field and it organizes scientific conferences, expositions and trade shows, as well as it provides educational activities and publishing. Among others, it supports students and students' organizations in more than 150 countries, where they form so called Student Chapters.
Nevertheless we form a part of SPIE, our goals and aims are not narrowed only to the mission of SPIE. The main quest of our Chapter, founded in 2011, is to create and support the community of young physicists and provide them an effective background for their scientific and social growth. Moreover, with a big emphasis, we engage in the propagation of Optics and the study of it on our faculty, wider academic sphere, but also in high schools and public.
Some of the activities we organize are a professional lecture of a foreign lector, an informative seminar designated for younger students, several social events and we participate in Open day of Charles University. This year, we plan to add some sporty and cultural events, excursions in industrial centers and to start a cycle of popular lectures on high schools.
